Jessica Yu and Marina Hirschfeld show two different ways of wearing jeggings.

Lets face it. Doing the “pants dance” is not so attractive anymore.

Sucking in your stomach, holding your breath and shimmying up is not the ideal way to get into your jeans. No matter how much you love those super hot skinny jeans, it is a huge hassle to slip into them.

Well have no fear; this is why jeggings were invented!

Jeggings are simply leggings that look like jeans. They’re made out of extremely stretchy and thin denim material and are often printed with belt loops, side seams and even pockets.

This clever new style came out about a year ago and is getting increasingly popular. Jeggings are designed to look like ultra tight skinny jeans. They’re incredibly fit and hug your every curve. Now you can look hot without losing circulation in your lower half.

Leggings are not supposed to be worn as pants; they just do not cover your butt correctly and let’s not forget the extremely noticeable camel toe. With jeggings, they are more acceptable to wear as pants because they do actually look like pants!

When they first came out, a lot of people did not like them. Girls thought it was weird and didn’t really enjoy being fooled into believing that they were not actual jeans. I even admit that I was quite puzzled when I first saw them on a friend. I was confused and did not understand how she fit herself into those seemingly super tight jeans.

Even with the ever-growing popularity of jeggings, there are still people with negative views on them.

“I’m a legging girl,” said Hilary Lewis, a 22-year-old part-time student. “They make skinny jeans for a reason.”

Danielle Talbot, a freshman physical therapy major, agrees with Lewis.

“I don’t like them,” Talbot said. “Either pick jeans or leggings. You can’t get the best of both worlds in one pair of pants.”

Fashion expert, Kristi Brooks, has her own doubts about this trend.

“I was hesitant to try them at first,” Brooks wrote in an article for the International Business Times. “[But] here’s the craziest part, I am absolutely nuts for them!”

Naturally, celebrities are also becoming huge fans of jeggings as they are progressively seen wearing them. People such as Kate Bosworth, Beyonce, Whitney Port and Sienna Miller are all in favor of this trend. They've been spotted walking down streets in either dark or acid washed jeggings paired with equally hot tops.

A lot of girls over-think and believe that only certain people with a certain body type can pull off jeggings, therefore not giving jeggings a chance at all.

This is ultimately the wrong way to look at this trend. It really all depends on what you wear with it, and how you wear it and accessorize it.

You can still choose to treat them as leggings. Pairing them up with a big oversized sweater could be cute, or a longer shirt to cover your butt.

Dark washed jeggings would be the safest ones to start with. You can match it up with pretty much anything. Dress it down with a T-shirt and boots or dress it up with a classy loose fitting top and heels. You’ll be ready for a fabulous night out downtown!

“They can look like mom jeans,” says Kayde Meyer, a freshman musical theater student. “But I do wear them. They’re really comfortable!”

Many name brands such as J Brand and Joe’s Jeans have really well made jeggings. Unfortunately, you can end up spending over $200 on just one pair. Topshop has some fabulous ones for around $70 a pair. When on a tight budget, Urban Outfitters also has superb ones. Forever 21, H&M, Abercrombie and Fitch, American Eagle and TJ Maxx all carry jeggings at affordable prices for your enjoyment.

With the warm spring weather approaching, jeggings are the perfect things to have. Consequently, jeggings might not flatter all sizes, but if worn correctly with the right accessories, shoes and most importantly confidence, they can produce an awesome and comfortable outfit.
